President William Ruto has stirred lighthearted reactions after revealing personal details about his daughter Charlene’s dating life while emphasizing that he would like her to marry a Kenyan.
Speaking during a public event, Ruto joked about Charlene’s past relationship, saying she previously had a boyfriend named Ochieng. However, according to the President, the young man suddenly disappeared.
“I want my daughter Charlene to be married to a Kenyan,” Ruto said. “Alikuwa na boyfriend anaitwa Ochieng. Juzi nilimwuliza Ochieng alienda wapi, akaniambia Ochieng alimuacha akatoroka.”
The remarks drew laughter from the audience, with many interpreting them as a blend of fatherly concern and political humor.
Ruto’s comment adds to the ongoing public fascination with Charlene, who has recently gained attention for her active involvement in national events, youth programs, and international engagements.
While the President kept the tone playful, his message carried a deeper cultural sentiment — the expectation in many Kenyan families that children should marry locally and maintain cultural ties.
The light moment comes amid a tense political climate, offering a rare glimpse into the President’s personal side.
