Police Take Action As 16-year-old Kisii Boy is Killed By Mob For Allegedly Stealing from Relatives

Police in Bonchari, Kisii County, have arrested one suspect in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy who was attacked by a mob.

The teenager, identified as Kepha, was reportedly pulled from his mother’s house on the evening of January 31, 2026. According to reports, he was dragged to a nearby market where he was assaulted by a group of people. He sustained serious injuries and was later rushed to hospital, where he sadly passed away.

His body has since been moved to a mortuary as authorities await a post-mortem examination and further investigations.

Police officers who addressed the incident condemned the act, emphasizing that mob justice is illegal and punishable under Kenyan law. They urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of others involved.

Kepha’s mother recounted the painful ordeal, saying she was awakened by her son’s screams. She attempted to intervene but was reportedly prevented from doing so by the attackers. According to her, the group claimed they intended to kill him.

The teenager had allegedly been accused of attempting to steal from relatives. However, the incident has sparked outrage within the community, with many residents questioning why he was not handed over to the authorities instead of being subjected to mob action.

The tragic death has once again highlighted the dangers of mob justice and the importance of allowing law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminal cases through the legal system.
