Painful Scene in Mlolongo as Police arrest Mother Over Children’s Death

Residents of Mlolongo Phase 3 are in shock following the tragic deaths of three children in their neighbourhood.

The children, who lived with their mother, were found dead under circumstances that have prompted a police investigation. Authorities confirmed the arrest of Linet Munala, a medical officer linked to Marie Stopes Kenya. She was picked up from her home on Monday and is currently held at Mlolongo Police Station as inquiries continue.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred inside the family’s single-room apartment. Police say the children fell seriously ill after consuming food prepared at home. Efforts to save them were unsuccessful, and all three later died.

Officers reported signs of disruption inside the apartment. Household items, including children’s books and uniforms, were scattered, and a container suspected to have held a harmful substance was recovered. Investigators are conducting laboratory tests and reviewing family history as part of their inquiries.

Neighbours described the estate, usually quiet and peaceful, as overwhelmed with grief. Rose Anami, caretaker of the building, said residents were deeply affected, with many gathering silently to mourn.

Machakos County authorities confirmed the deaths and assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing. Formal charges will depend on postmortem and forensic results. The children’s father returned from Nairobi following the tragedy, but officials have withheld details about his statement to protect the family’s privacy.

The loss of three children has left the community united in mourning. Residents continue to hope that the investigation will clarify what happened and bring justice.

This incident serves as a reminder of the hidden challenges families may face and the importance of vigilance and support in communities.
