In a recent address at the Jubilee Christian Church, Dennis Okari shared his deeply personal struggle with suicidal thoughts that arose following his divorce from fellow journalist Betty Kyallo. Okari, an experienced investigative journalist, acknowledged that the end of his marriage, which occurred a mere six months after their extravagant wedding, profoundly affected him.
During his speech, Okari admitted that he once contemplated causing a car accident, hoping to enter a coma and escape the pain of his circumstances. Recounting a specific incident while driving on Mombasa Road, he revealed that he searched for a stone on the road to execute his plan but was unable to find one that night. The weight of the situation became increasingly apparent as Okari emphasized that no one enters into a marriage with the expectation of divorce.
Okari expressed deep concern about how his family and relatives would perceive him in the aftermath of his shattered marriage. He confessed to feeling apprehensive about being perceived as a broken man and struggled to navigate the challenges that lay ahead.
Dealing with the aftermath of his divorce proved to be a lengthy and arduous journey for Okari. He confronted the stigmatization associated with divorce, particularly within the church community. He shared the pain of being told by fellow church members that his status as a divorcee limited his ability to serve in the church. Overcoming this stigma was a formidable task for Okari, compounded by the challenges he faced within the divorce process itself.
Trusting another woman after his previous marriage ended was a significant hurdle for Okari to overcome. He admitted that it took him approximately three years to heal from the bitterness and trauma surrounding his divorce. However, with time, Okari found love once again and met his current wife, Naomi, with whom he now shares the responsibilities of co-parenting.
Dennis Okari and Betty Kyallo were in a relationship for about four years before they exchanged vows in an opulent ceremony on October 2, 2015, at Marula Manor Gardens in Karen Street, Nairobi. Sadly, their union was short-lived, and they decided to part ways just six months later, leaving many Kenyans shocked and disheartened.
During their time together, Okari and Kyallo were blessed with a beautiful daughter named Ivanna, whom they now co-parent. The reasons behind their breakup reportedly involved infidelity, with Kyallo having an affair with Hassan Joho. Once Okari discovered the betrayal, he swiftly initiated divorce proceedings.
Following the collapse of her marriage around April 2016, Betty Kyallo entered into a serious relationship with Hassan Joho, while Okari also moved on with his life.
Okari eventually found love again and entered into a second marriage in February 2019. He exchanged vows with Joy Naomi in an intimate, invite-only ceremony held at a venue on Kiambu Road.
