Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has sent a strong political message to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), making it clear that his party has no intention of offering the Deputy President position to the opposition.
Speaking during a recent political event, Cherargei emphasized that while coalition negotiations may allow for minor positions, top leadership posts remain non-negotiable.
“ODM are thinking we’ll give them the Deputy President position. We’ll never. The most we can offer them is some few positions including Wazee wa Mitaa. If they don’t want, they can exit,” Cherargei stated, drawing loud reactions from the crowd.
His remarks come at a time when coalition politics are intensifying ahead of the 2027 General Election. Political analysts note that Cherargei’s declaration may signal growing tension between ODM and allied parties, particularly in negotiations over power-sharing and strategic positions.
Observers say the statement could test the unity of coalition partners, as ODM has previously indicated interest in senior positions to strengthen its influence at the national level. Cherargei, however, appears firm on limiting their role to lower-tier appointments.
The declaration has sparked debate on social media, with some Kenyans supporting the hardline stance while others warn it could fracture political alliances in the run-up to the next elections.
