A Kenyan woman has opened up about her emotional journey after her partner, whom she supported during hard times, left her for another woman.
Beatrice (not her real name) met Martin (also a pseudonym) three years after separating from her former husband. At the time, Martin was unemployed due to the economic challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite his financial difficulties, Beatrice welcomed him into her life. She took on the responsibility of providing for their household, covering all expenses while he was still trying to get back on his feet.
“I housed him, paid the bills, and supported him for over a year and a half,” she shared.
Eventually, the couple had their first child together and moved into a more affordable single-room house. Even when she fell pregnant with their second child, Beatrice continued to support the family. When medical expenses became too much to handle, they turned to well-wishers for help.
Beatrice went a step further and helped Martin secure a job. However, things took a turn when she discovered he was seeing someone else while she was pregnant. She later found out he had listed the other woman as his next of kin at his new workplace.
The situation worsened when Martin left, leaving Beatrice with a newborn, a toddler, no food, and unpaid rent—all while recovering from a C-section.
“I reported him to the relevant authorities and sought help through FIDA, but he said he had no money,” she said, noting that he had not been supporting their children.
Despite the betrayal, Beatrice chose to focus on healing. She returned to school, secured a job opportunity, and is now on the verge of rebuilding her life.
“I thank God for the second chance. I went through depression, but I recovered and now I’m back on track,” she said.
Her story has resonated with many Kenyans online, sparking conversations about relationships, personal sacrifice, and resilience.
