Women in Murang’a County have raised complaints after they allegedly got conned by a gang of four individuals using DP Ruto’s name.
The women from all over Murang’a County said that they have been conned Ksh 1 million adding that a group of three men and one lady have been going around villages asking residents for Ksh 630 as registration fee promising them Ksh 10,000 as gift from Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachel as Christmas gift.
They said that they were promised bundles of wheat and maize flour, cooking oil, rice and juice.
A resident by the name Margaret Njambi said that her group of 160 women in Kahuhia paid Ksh 100,800 as registration.
“The Deputy President frequently visits Murang’a county. He even addressed us in Kamahuha. If he came to our village, his wife will too,” Ms Njambi said.
Another lady from Kiharu said that her group of 34 members paid the amount waiting for the goodies come December 24th.
“I heard on the radio the warning about the scheme. We may have lost our money,” she said.
Issuing a statement on the same, DP Ruto’s communication chief, Emanuel Talam said that there is no such program by the DP or his wife.
“There is nothing like that. Those fraudsters should be reported to police,” Mr Talam said.
