MCAs in the Assembly Committee for Culture warned speaker Muturi against going on with his planned coronation at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga.
They contended that the event would not enhance the Speaker as the area since president kenyatta is the tribes supremo
The Speaker was however adviced to go into detachment for a week in anticipation of the crowning, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 22.
A section of Murang’a MCAs from the County Assembly Committee for Culture has pledged to stop Speaker Justin Muturi from being ordained as the Mt Kenya king.
The MCAs drawn from the Assembly Committee for Culture advised Muturi and some Agikuyu elders against the arranged coronation at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrines.
Addressing the media on Thursday, May 20, the ward reps led by Stephen Chege Nominated Mca town ward .claimed the local political leadership was not aware of any plans to use the shrine, which is under the county government.
“Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga is a very important shrine for the Agikuyu community. The place is used purposely for prayers but not for political activities. Let speaker Muturi be informed about the sacredness of the place he is being told to be coroneted,” said Chege.
Different legislators who are against Muturi’s installation said that the said event would not enhance the Speaker as the region actually believes President Uhuru Kenyatta as its supremo.
“Elders whom I have talked to have said organizers of the occasion are just after money. Political events should not be done at the shrine believed to be the origin of the Agikuyu community,” argued MCA Karigi Murigi.
