The mother of Reuben Wangari Ndung’u, a Kenyan man reportedly deceived into joining the Russian military, has revealed her son’s haunting last words.
Speaking to journalists in Nakuru, Reuben’s mother, Jane Wangari, said her son called her asking for prayers, telling her that “things were not good” on his side. The distressed mother revealed that Reuben has been missing for over a month since traveling to the war-torn country.
Reuben had reportedly been promised a lucrative employment opportunity abroad, only to discover that he had been misled. Jane explained that her son, a hardworking man, had previously returned from Somalia, where he worked as a construction worker earning a modest salary. He had hoped the new opportunity would improve his life, but communication ceased after October 8.
The family is now appealing to the government and relevant authorities to help trace Reuben’s whereabouts. They also urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious about overseas job offers that sound too good to be true.
The incident has sparked heated debate online, with many Kenyans condemning agencies and individuals that exploit desperate people seeking employment abroad. This follows other high-profile cases, including the arrest of a popular TikToker named Rish, who allegedly scammed Kenyans through a fraudulent company promising foreign jobs.
Reuben’s family continues to pray for his safe return, while the nation watches closely, urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent similar tragedies.
