Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has made bold remarks about the political future of the Luo community, insisting that they are not currently represented in government and vowing to change that ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a public event, Owino stated, “Sisi Wajaluo hatuko serikalini; tusidanganywe eti tuko serikalini. Mwaka wa 2027 lazima tutatengeneza serikali yetu, ili Baba afurahi penye yuko.” He argued that despite popular belief, the Luo community currently lacks meaningful influence in national decision-making, and that 2027 offers an opportunity to establish leadership that truly reflects their interests.
Owino’s remarks signal a strong push for political self-determination and community-driven governance. He emphasized that the Luo community must unite to ensure their voices are heard and that their preferred leadership is represented at the highest levels.
Political analysts say Owino’s statement reflects growing ambitions within the community and the wider opposition space as leaders prepare for the 2027 elections. Supporters view his comments as a call for empowerment and strategic planning, while critics caution that such rhetoric could deepen ethnic divisions if not carefully managed.
As Kenya gears up for another critical electoral cycle, statements like Owino’s underscore the intense jockeying for influence and the emerging discourse around community-driven governance.
