A senior ODM leader, Oburu Odinga, has defended the party’s decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying he cannot abandon the government arrangement that was endorsed by Raila Odinga.
Speaking at a public event, Oburu stated that Raila “was not foolish” to support the broad-based government framework, insisting that party members must respect his political direction. He emphasized that he would not act contrary to Raila’s wishes.
“Tuliingilia kwa dirisha, lakini 2027 tutapata pawa kupitia kwa mlango,” Oburu remarked, suggesting that while the current cooperation may appear indirect, the ultimate goal is to secure full political power through the ballot in the 2027 General Election.
His remarks come amid ongoing debate within ODM and the broader opposition over the wisdom of engaging in a broad-based political arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration.
Political observers say the statement signals ODM’s long-term strategy as leaders position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
