Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued a stern warning to comedians making skits about his daughter’s personal life, urging them to exercise sensitivity and avoid trivializing serious matters.
In a statement, Sonko clarified that while he appreciates and supports young talent in Kenya’s comedy scene, some topics—especially those involving gender-based violence (GBV)—should not be turned into entertainment.
“To our comedians, I really like to support any kind of talent, especially from our upcoming youth, and I will always support them, but naomba tuwache kujoke na kufanya mchezo na kitu serious. GBV is not a laughing matter. I stand corrected,” Sonko said.
His remarks come after several viral skits surfaced online, making light of incidents involving his daughter. The former governor emphasized that while humor is important, it should never come at the expense of dignity, respect, or the seriousness of sensitive issues.
Sonko’s warning has sparked a conversation on social media about the limits of comedy, public responsibility, and respecting personal boundaries, even in an era where viral content spreads rapidly.
