A man has been left devastated after discovering that his girlfriend of three years secretly married another man, using the funds he had given her under the pretense of preparing for her sister’s wedding.
The betrayal has deeply affected him, with thoughts of ending his life now consuming him.
Linguist and editor Maazi Ogbonnaya Okoro shared the man’s distressing story on Facebook, including details from their WhatsApp conversations.
According to these messages, the man, whose identity has not been revealed, was led to believe that his girlfriend, Chidera, was organizing her sister’s wedding. She told him that the traditional ceremony would be held on Friday, followed by the white wedding on Saturday.
Trusting her completely, he accompanied Chidera on shopping trips in Onitsha market on Tuesday and Wednesday, spending a substantial amount of money to ensure she was well-prepared. After the shopping, he even sent KSh 15,000 to Chidera’s sister and arranged for her to return home on Thursday, believing he was helping with the wedding preparations.
The devastating truth emerged when he discovered that the wedding was not for Chidera’s sister but for Chidera herself. The woman he had loved and supported for years had used his money to marry another man.
