A man who disappeared from his home for 47 years recently expressed disappointment upon discovering that his two wives had remarried. Peter Oyuka, a resident of Makale village, couldn’t fathom why his two wives couldn’t hold on for just 47 years.
This 84-year-old man, who vanished from his home in 1974 when he was 37, returned home and conveyed his dismay at the fact that the two wives he left behind had not been patient enough, instead choosing to begin new relationships.
Oyuka, who had left Makale village in Kenya in 1974 and was absent from his family’s life for nearly half a century, reappeared, saying, “I wish my wives were here today to welcome me home.”
During an interview with local media, Peter implored his estranged wives to spare some time for him, saying, “I wish my two wives well in their marriages. Nevertheless, I would like them to be aware that I’m still alive and that they should find the time to come and visit me.”
While he had spent a significant portion of those 47 years in Tanzania, where he fell in love and had a child with another woman, he had anticipated that his original wives would have remained faithful.
“I am very disheartened that they could not wait for me, but I respect their decision,” he added.
The revelation of Peter’s return evoked mixed reactions among Kenyan citizens. Some felt that the wives’ actions were justified, with comments like, “His wives couldn’t wait even a little longer, so impatient indeed,” and others humorously noted, “Form ni kuoga na kurudi soko Kenya” (It’s all about taking a shower and returning to the market in Kenya). Some individuals even commented on the unpredictability of human behavior, saying, “There are many mad people out there, only a few have been confined in mental hospitals.”
