UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala has stirred political debate after claiming that there is no difference between Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, describing Wanga as “the female version of Kahiga.”
Speaking during a political gathering, Malala praised both governors for their firm leadership styles and commitment to development, saying they share similar qualities despite coming from different regions and political backgrounds.
“There is no difference between Gladys Wanga and Mutahi Kahiga. In fact, Gladys Wanga is the female version of Mutahi Kahiga,” Malala remarked, drawing cheers and laughter from the crowd.
He explained that both leaders have shown courage, consistency, and hands-on leadership in their respective counties, noting that their approach to governance reflects the kind of leadership Kenya needs—one that focuses on results rather than rhetoric.
Malala’s statement has since sparked discussions online, with supporters of both governors interpreting it in different ways. Some took it as a compliment recognizing Wanga’s strength and decisiveness, while others viewed it as a political comparison aimed at uniting leaders across party lines.
Political analysts say the remark reflects Malala’s broader effort to promote cooperation and dialogue among leaders, regardless of their political affiliations, especially as the country prepares for the next general election.
Whether meant as praise or political strategy, Malala’s comparison has certainly put both Wanga and Kahiga back in the spotlight—two governors known for their growing influence in national politics.
