Drama unfolded in Kithimani, Machakos County, after a pastor abruptly ended his sermon and fled the stage when he came face-to-face with a man he least expected.
Drivers, conductors, and passengers watched in shock as the preacher, who was delivering a fiery message at the busy matatu stage, suddenly bolted without explanation.
Witnesses said the preacher was a common figure at the stage, often sharing Bible verses before asking travelers for offerings.
Nobody knew much about his background, but he had become a familiar voice and was treated by many as a prophet.
The commotion began when he moved closer to a matatu and noticed a passenger stretching out a hand.
Believing he was about to receive an offering, the pastor stepped forward.
To his surprise, the hand belonged to his neighbor back home, a man who had been demanding repayment of a huge debt.
The pastor, who had allegedly moved houses to avoid his creditor and even stopped answering calls, panicked when he realized he had been recognized.
Without finishing his sermon, he dashed into a nearby alley to escape confrontation.
Since the incident, locals say the preacher has not returned to the stage, and it remains unclear if he will resume his daily sermons.
The bizarre episode has left residents talking, with many questioning the true character of the man they had trusted as a servant of God.
