Luo Lady Chased Away from Home by Family Members After Giving Birth to a Mixed-Race Arabian Child

Anna Awuor, a 29-year-old Luo woman from Siaya County, has found herself homeless after her family disowned her for giving birth to a mixed-race Arabian child. Her harrowing experience began when she returned to Kenya from Saudi Arabia, where she had endured abuse as a domestic worker, leading to an unexpected pregnancy.

Upon learning of her pregnancy, Awuor’s employer in Saudi Arabia expedited her deportation back to Kenya. Her return, however, brought even more hardship. Her family refused to accept her or her newborn, rejecting them because of the child’s Arabian heritage.

Left with nowhere to turn, Awuor sought refuge in Migori County, hoping to find support from a relative. To her dismay, she discovered that her relative had moved away, leaving her and her child without assistance.

In her desperation, Awuor reached out to the chief’s camp in Migori. Her situation was soon highlighted by philanthropist Judy Oricho, who shared Awuor’s story on Facebook. Oricho’s post drew significant attention, revealing Awuor’s plight and urgent need for food, clothing, and shelter.

The post resonated with many Kenyans, leading to an outpouring of support. Among those who stepped in to help was the organization Harvest Hope of Africa. They provided immediate aid, offering Awuor and her children shelter and essential supplies, giving them a renewed sense of hope and security.
