Deputy Inspector General DIG of police Eliud Lagat has found himself in boiling water, after the Kibera law court was urged to establish why his (Lagat’s) name was excluded from murder charges of former social media influencer Albert Ojwang, who was brutally tortured to death while in police custody.
Following a petition that was filed on Wednesday 25 June 2025, the High Court was urged to immediately stop prosecution of the six (6) suspects linked to Albert Ojwang’s mysterious death, until concrete reasons are given as to why Eliud Lagat’s name was missing from the list of those being prosecuted.
Prior to emergence of the report, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) through Mr Renson Ingonga, had approved six individuals to be charged with the death of the former CRE teacher who included; suspended OCS Samson Talaam, PC James Mukhwana, civilians Peter Kimani, John Ngige Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao and Brian Mwaniki.
Aside from that, the petitioners also want the court to issue a directive barring Eliud Lagat from resuming his role in the upcoming days, until the case of Albert Ojwang is fully heard and determined for his family to get Justice.
Vividly recalled by many, Inspector General IG of police Douglas Kanja indicated through a press briefing that his Deputy Eliud Lagat was the state officer who initially had launched a complaint against Ojwang prior to his arrest, torture and death in custody.
On the other hand, police constable James Mukhwana also dropped a bombshell against Mr Eliud Lagat, after he disclosed to the investigative officers that he was involved in the murder, because he was following strict orders from his bosses OCS Samson Talaam and Eliud Lagat.
