Ken Wakuraya: From Mitumba seller to TV News anchor, Where is He Now

Some artists are exceptionally creative, discovering unique ways to inspire their fans and capture their hearts. One such artist is Ken Wakuraya, also known as “Mundu Particular” by his fans.

Ken, a social person, businessman, and news anchor, is regarded as one of the most promising young figures with a significant influence on the youth.

Born and raised in Nyandarua County, Ken experienced a tough and challenging childhood before his star began to shine.

In an interview with a local news outlet, Ken shared that he is the youngest of five children and recalled the hardships he endured during his early years.

After completing his studies at Ol Kalou High School, the well-known reporter moved to Nairobi in search of work. He described his struggles, working various jobs such as selling second-hand clothes (mitumbas), working on construction sites, and even cleaning a pharmacy. Despite the challenges, Ken remained hopeful for a brighter future.

“There were times I slept on the veranda at Archives because I couldn’t afford rent. I would walk from River Road to Kayole, and though the bus fare was just 20 or 30 bob, I couldn’t even afford that,” he recalls tearfully.

With the support of his relatives and close friends, Ken pursued his dream of acting, creating his own Kikuyu show called Tafadhali Tigira Hau (Kindly Stop It There). This was before landing a role on Tahidi High, where he portrayed Kandi, a shy geography teacher with a love for country music.

“We acted in our construction clothes. People thought it was a trend, but we wore them because we had no choice. I became a celebrity on River Road,” Ken reminisces.

Two years later, Ken joined Royal Media’s Inooro TV as a prime-time reporter.

His on-screen chemistry with co-host Muthoni wa Mukiri propelled his popularity, with many speculating that they were a couple. However, they later clarified the situation.

Ken credits his success to God’s guidance and encourages young people not to engage in inappropriate behavior but to have faith and hope for a better tomorrow.

In addition to his role as a news anchor, Ken hosts a country music show called Thuthira Ngoro on Thursdays, alongside Shiru the Shi Girl, on Inooro TV.
