Former Citizen TV presenter Kimani Mbugua has provided an update on his well-being following a concerning video that raised questions about his mental health.
In the aftermath of a video that sparked worries about his mental state, Kimani Mbugua, the former host on Citizen TV, has opened up about his current health situation.
Struggling with bipolar disorder and addiction, Kimani shared a video on social media that hinted at a possible relapse. The footage depicted Kimani in both rural and urban settings, speaking incoherently with an unusual tone of voice. Despite his seemingly upbeat demeanor and sarcastic laughs, his uncontrollable laughter and emotional wandering left Kenyans concerned about his mood.
Addressing the concerns raised by the video, Kimani explained that people may be surprised because they are unaware of the extent of his mental condition. In a live session, he shared that some netizens were taken aback by his behavior, not realizing that such conduct is typical for someone grappling with mental health issues.
In another video, Kimani revealed that he is currently battling depression and expressed the need for medication to alleviate his struggles. He candidly stated, “I am depressed. I need medication. They are costly.”
Worried netizens expressed their concerns about Kimani’s declining health and emphasized the urgency for him to seek professional help. Notably, in September, he had appealed for assistance due to his challenging financial situation.
In a video shared on social media, Kimani disclosed that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2020, and people eventually grew weary of supporting him. During that time, content creator Nyako Pilot managed to raise Ksh 420,000 on her TikTok account to aid him.
Last year, Kimani experienced a psychotic episode attributed to excessive marijuana usage, leading to his admission to a mental health facility.
