Outspoken Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino once made headlines after issuing a stern warning to Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, accusing her of exhibiting conduct unbecoming of a head of state.
In his fiery statement, Babu Owino cautioned the Tanzanian leader against interfering in matters concerning Kenya or acting in ways that could strain diplomatic relations between the two nations.
“Samia Suluhu, don’t ever come to Kenya if you can’t behave. We will not entertain such conduct unbecoming of a Leader!” the MP declared in a public post that quickly went viral.
Babu, known for his blunt and controversial remarks, made the statement at a time when tensions between Kenyan and Tanzanian authorities had briefly escalated over trade and political disagreements. His warning was seen as both a defense of Kenya’s sovereignty and a reflection of his outspoken nature when addressing regional politics.
The legislator further emphasized that leadership demands respect, diplomacy, and restraint — especially when dealing with neighboring countries. He argued that African leaders should focus on unity and development instead of provoking unnecessary hostility.
While some Kenyans supported his tough tone, praising him for “speaking truth to power,” others criticized the remarks as disrespectful and diplomatically insensitive, considering Samia Suluhu’s position as Tanzania’s first female president.
Despite the backlash, Babu Owino’s comments reignited debate on the need for mutual respect and responsible diplomacy among East African leaders. His bold statement remains one of the most controversial moments in recent regional political exchanges — a reminder of how quickly political rhetoric can stir emotions across borders.
