Kaluma Boy, who has been looking after his dad following a stroke he suffered over a year ago, slowly rose to fame by sharing touching videos of their daily struggles. His content resonated with thousands, turning him into an internet sensation with a rapidly growing fan base.
Speaking during the emotional gathering, Kaluma’s mother revealed the powerful story behind the phone her son uses to create content. She narrated how the family, already deep in financial struggles, sacrificed their last coins to buy him the device that would later change their lives.
Her husband, who had just received his tea bonus, insisted on purchasing a phone for Kaluma despite the family owing loans and being left with only KSh 17,000.
“When our other son completed his Form Four, we really struggled to buy him a phone. But when the tea bonus came, my husband said, ‘Let’s buy Kaluma a phone for school.’ I was worried about what we would remain with, but in short, he has just been favoured for a long time,” she told GTN TV.
What seemed like a risky sacrifice has now turned into a blessing, as their son’s story has touched millions and opened doors of hope for the family.
