In a deeply troubling incident, Promise Karanja, a 22-year-old Kenyan man who was in a relationship with Terryanne, a 42-year-old woman, found himself subjected to a brutal assault carried out by unidentified individuals. Promise took to social media to share photographs, including images from his hospital stay at Kenyatta University Hospital, which displayed severe injuries to his lips. He also referenced an Occurrence Book (OB) number from the Kahawa West Police Station.
According to the official police report documented in the OB, Promise had fallen victim to an attack perpetrated by a group of men due to his romantic involvement with a woman significantly older than him. The police records further indicated that these assailants had demanded money from Promise, money he was reportedly receiving from the 42-year-old woman.
The distressing revelation triggered widespread concern among Promise’s followers, resulting in numerous inquiries about the situation. In a subsequent video posted on his social media channel, Promise recounted the horrifying incident. He described how, while filming a video at approximately 6 p.m., two young men suddenly approached them, treating Terryanne with disrespect and demanding that she buy them lunch. Initially, as a gesture of goodwill, Promise gave them some money. However, the men returned, this time making threats to steal their camera equipment unless they were provided with more money.
Overwhelmed with fear and feeling trapped, Promise and Terryanne reluctantly complied with the demands of the aggressors. Tragically, the situation escalated rapidly, leading to the theft of their valuable lighting equipment and camera. Promise, showing immense courage, intervened in an effort to protect Terryanne but ended up being assaulted himself, subsequently requiring hospitalization for his injuries.
Despite the trauma of the experience, Promise expressed gratitude for the medical care he received and extended forgiveness to his attackers.
