Justina Syokau is a controversial Kenyan gospel artist, but she only became widely known in 2020 when she released her hit song “2020.” The song was well-received by the audience, bringing her into the spotlight.
Before this breakthrough, Justina’s online presence was relatively obscure. Despite this, she was already making significant money through social media and had accumulated considerable wealth. She credits the church for playing a pivotal role in her success, both financially and in promoting her music.
Justina’s journey to success involved hawking her compact discs (CDs) in the streets and churches to promote her gospel songs. At the time, she sold each CD for Ksh.100. On a good Sunday, she could make substantial earnings by selling CDs at multiple churches and sessions. She recalls that the most she ever made was Ksh.700,000 in a single day during a crusade in Nairobi, solely from CD sales.
She emphasized that money was never an issue for her, noting that even on her worst Sundays, she earned at least Ksh.70,000. This was a significant amount, making CD sales far more profitable for her than YouTube and other streaming platforms.
Justina expressed deep gratitude to the church for its support in helping her rise to fame and for backing her gospel music career.
