Nairobi was left in shock on Tuesday evening after prominent lawyer and author Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was gunned down in a brazen attack along Lang’ata Road.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 pm when a hooded assailant on a motorcycle pulled up beside Mbobu’s vehicle and opened fire. Within seconds, the gunman sped off on a waiting bike, leaving the lawyer slumped lifeless over his steering wheel.
The busy Galleria–Brookhouse stretch descended into chaos as motorists froze in fear, parents shielded their children, and pedestrians scattered in panic. Traffic ground to a halt, with witnesses struggling to process the chilling scene.
A passenger in a matatu described the hit as swift and calculated.
“It happened so fast. No one had time to react. The man just walked past holding his gun before disappearing,” the eyewitness recounted.
Police say the killing appears to have been a targeted hit. Detectives are now analyzing CCTV footage and collecting statements from witnesses as investigations intensify.
