CAS Millicent Omanga shared in an interview on MC Jessy’s YouTube show, Jessy Junction, that she achieved her initial financial milestone of one million shillings at the age of 19 by engaging in street vending.
During her time as an undergraduate at the University of Nairobi, Omanga embarked on her entrepreneurial journey, managing to reach the one-million-shilling mark within a year. In her words, she used a portion of her school fees to purchase goods in Eastleigh, subsequently selling them at a profit. By the age of 20, she had acquired a new car while still pursuing her university education.
Omanga, speaking confidently about her diverse business ventures, disclosed that she played a significant role in the bedsheet market, asserting herself as one of the largest suppliers in the country. She emphasized her commitment to making money by selling various items, including bedsheets.
Her breakthrough came when she secured a tender to supply bedsheets to a hotel in Eldoret, enabling her to accumulate capital and expand her business by importing additional products.
During a Pitchface end-of-year party two years ago, Omanga openly credited William Ruto for her success, acknowledging his instrumental role in transitioning her from street vending to becoming a public figure. She commended Ruto for his belief in youth leadership.
Reflecting on her appointment as a director at the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) in 2013, Omanga attributed it to William Ruto’s support. Nominated by the ruling party, she revealed that Energy CS Davis Chirchir summoned her to his office, informing her of her nomination as a director within an hour.
Omanga served as a director at KenGen from 2013 to 2017. Currently, she is the owner and manager of Milways Enterprises, a company specializing in construction, interior décor, and imported furniture. Her success story reflects her resilience and determination in the world of business and politics.
