Former Nakuru Town East MP Kimani Ngunjiri has issued a fiery warning to President William Ruto’s close ally and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, cautioning against what he termed as attempts to stir ethnic politics.
Speaking during a public address, Ngunjiri said leaders should avoid dragging the country into divisive tribal confrontations.
“Kama mnataka tuende hiyo njia ya kukoroga na ukabila, come baby come, hakuna kitu hatuna, lakini hatutaki kuenda hiyo njia. 70% ya kura za Nakuru ni za Wakikuyu. Tukiamua kupiga kura kutoka juu mpaka chini, na Cheruiyot na watu wake wapige juu mpaka chini, we are ready kama mbaya ikuwe mbaya!” he said.
Ngunjiri reminded leaders that a large section of Mount Kenya voters defied former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s direction in 2022 to back Ruto. He warned that continued political friction could shift the region’s support.
“Tulikataa kufuata Uhuru Kenyatta, tukapigia Ruto kura, lakini mkiendelea hivi Ruto atakuwa Wantam!” he added.
His remarks have since triggered debate, with some leaders calling for calm and unity, urging politicians to focus on development rather than ethnic rhetoric as the country heads toward the 2027 elections.
