Ernest Maiki: University of Eldoret Graduate Who Scored B+ in KCSE Becomes a Watchman at His Former School

Ernest Maiki Abraham, a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from the University of Eldoret, found himself in an unforeseen predicament after struggling to secure a job in his field of expertise.

Despite his strong academic credentials, Ernest had no choice but to return to RCEA Kuinet Secondary School, his alma mater, where he had completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2011 with a stellar B+ grade.

Faced with the harsh reality of unemployment, Ernest took on the job of a security guard at the very institution where he once studied. Speaking to KTN, he expressed his disillusionment with the job market’s lack of responsiveness to his qualifications.

“I never imagined I would end up here, despite my best efforts. I’ve tried everything, and still nothing has worked,” he said in frustration.

Ernest’s journey in search of gainful employment had been grueling. He sent numerous applications to renowned companies, including tech firms, multinational corporations, and supermarkets, but encountered repeated rejections.

The sense of hopelessness began to take its toll, especially after the challenges of university life. “There comes a point when you give up. During my time at the University of Eldoret, things became so tough, even during graduation. Life became so difficult that you lose hope,” he shared, emphasizing the immense struggles he had faced.

Currently working as a security guard, Ernest earns a modest income that barely covers his daily expenses, let alone provide support for his younger siblings.
