Court proceedings in Manchester have revealed how consultant anaesthetist Dr. Suhail Anjum, 44, walked out on a patient mid-operation to engage in a sexual encounter with a nurse.
The married father-of-three left a patient undergoing gall bladder surgery at Tameside General Hospital, only to be found in a “compromising position” with Nurse C in an adjoining theatre. Witnesses testified that his trousers were being tied up while the nurse’s were around her knees.
The shocking incident, which happened in September 2023, has sparked outrage, with the General Medical Council branding it a serious breach of trust.
Dr. Anjum, who has since moved to Pakistan, admitted before the tribunal: “I feel shame and guilt. I don’t know what I was thinking.”
