Cash Crop Za Nyandarua Ni Waru! Kaveve Kazoze’s Spider Clan Plead For Financial Help

Spider Clan, a prominent Kenyan gengetone collective recognized for their chart-topping track ‘Rieng Genje’ featuring notable lyrics like ‘Cash crop ya Nyandarua ni Mawaru,’ ‘Kaveve kazoze,’ and ‘unibebe hadi mbere ya kerende,’ has reached out for support.

Contrary to widespread belief, the group insists that they did not reap financial benefits from the song initially. It was only after the song’s explosion and garnering 4 million views that they realized its potential for monetization. Shockingly, they claim that the sole beneficiary of the substantial view count was the sound producer, leaving them empty-handed despite their hard work and creative input.

The group went on to express the challenge of convincing people that they are not financially well-off, as the luxurious lifestyle portrayed online differs significantly from their current reality.

“Those claiming that we made money from that song, the song brought us fame, the name is big, but there’s no money involved.”

Speaking to Jalang’o TV, the Kaveve Kazoze singers revealed that Mike Sonko facilitated their travel and accommodation for a performance in Mombasa. However, the promises made by Sonko were unfulfilled, leading to disappointment.

“He took us to the Mombasa show, paid for our flight, accommodation, and even the return fare. But after the Mombasa show, he cut off communication, and those promises he made were never fulfilled,” the group shared.

Facing financial challenges, the group is appealing to club promoters to book them for shows in an effort to sustain themselves.

Addressing the controversy involving her and comedian 2mbili, Ngesh disclosed that she declined his assistance as it was directed solely towards her and not the entire crew. Although this strained her relationship with the comedian, she clarified that there is no animosity on her part.

“It seemed like he wanted to push me as a solo artist, but I can’t leave the crew, can’t you see,” she explained.

Despite the global popularity of their Gengetone hit song, which has amassed over 4.2 million views in the past six months, Spider Clan is grappling with financial challenges and seeking support to navigate their way forward.
