Buzeki: How I Made My 1st Billion At JUST 30 Years

The name ‘Buzeki’ is derived from his full name, Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop. He is a well-known Kenyan businessman, philanthropist, and politician.

Many Kenyans became acquainted with him after running for the Uasin Gishu governorship in 2017.

Buzeki is a self-made billionaire, a status he has earned from his business. His self-drive has come in handy in providing a solid foundation for the ventures.

The renowned businessman became a billionaire in his 30s, a feat few achieve in a lifetime.

He made most of his money from the dairy industry, as he used to hawk milk from a cart along the coast.

As the regional dairy sales manager for Kilifi Plantations between 1998 and 2000, he led an aggressive sales team and ensured a successful milk sales volume record under the brand Kilifi Gold.

Later, he pioneered the introduction of Tuzo Milk on the Coast and made it the largest milk brand in the region.

His Journey to Making a big sum of money started in 2008. He initiated a processing and packaging division for dairy products named Buzeki Dairy Limited and acquired the first plant in Kilifi with a capacity of about 25,000 liters per day.

Two years later, he opened another plant in Molo and named it Molo milk. The plant had a production output of about 80,000 liters daily.

His businesses grew, and in 2013, Brookside made him an offer that catapulted him to billionaire status. People familiar with the deal said it was priced at Sh1.1 billion.

Regarding the sale of his Molo Milk brand, Buzeki says it was the right time to sell the company but blames Uasin Gishu county politicians for denying locals the chance to own the company.

“I wanted the locals to have the benefit of the county owning the company. Uasin Gishu people lost a chance to have an investment that would have helped the farmers. Another interested party came and bought it. It’s business. Nothing is wrong with that,” he says.
