Body of a Newborn baby found dumped inside a cardboard box in Rarieda Siaya County

Authorities in Rarieda Sub-county, Siaya County, are currently conducting investigations following the discovery of a deceased newborn at a local market.

The infant’s body was found concealed in a cardboard box at Ndigwa market during the evening hours of Monday, April 15, 2024.

Initial assessments suggest that the baby was abandoned shortly after birth, prompting law enforcement to initiate a search for the individual believed to have left the child.

Confirmation of the incident came from Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, who stated that Victor Otunge, the Assistant Chief of Naya sub-location, reported the discovery to Madiany police station.

According to Otunge’s report, the body, seemingly that of a newborn, was found abandoned by the roadside within Ndigwa market, carefully wrapped inside a cardboard box.

Following the report, officers from Madiany Police station promptly responded and transported the infant’s remains to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary for further examination and identification purposes.

Efforts are now underway to apprehend the individual responsible for this tragic event.

Commander Kimaiyo also issued a plea, urging young mothers to avoid the harmful practice of abandoning their newborns.
