Gospel singer Guardian Angel remains resolute in defending his marriage to Esther Musila, despite the considerable age gap of over two decades between them.
In a recent speech, he offered his perspective on the tendency of people to prioritize his wife’s age over her name when addressing her. In a humorous tone, he quipped, “Mkianza na jina ya bibi yangu mnaanza first na number then mnataja my wife mpaka mkachoka,” shedding light on the public’s fixation on her age.
Guardian Angel displayed remarkable courage as he steadfastly upheld and celebrated his marital bond, declaring, “Mliongea mkachoka, na sasa tuko mwaka wa nne baada ya matusi,” underscoring his resilience against criticism and negativity.
Furthermore, he expressed gratitude for his wife’s unwavering support, emphasizing that without her, he might not have weathered the storm of insults and mockery he faced. He credited Esther Musila for his current standing, stating, “Hiyo ushenzi yenyu ndio ingeniua lakini kwasababu sikusikia, leo hii nasimama hapa mbele yenyu ng’ang’ari kwa sababu ya mke wangu.”
Guardian Angel made a solemn commitment never to return to the church, a decision influenced by a distressing incident he encountered. Speaking at the launch of his record label, “7 Heaven Music,” he recounted mistreatment at a church that led to his disenchantment with organized religion. He shared, “I went to a church to sing somewhere, and I was mistreated in that Church.” He went on to explain that he was initially prohibited from singing and stepping on the altar, fueling his disillusionment.
This mistreatment deeply affected him, leading him to question whether his marital choice should prevent him from expressing his faith through music in a church setting. Consequently, he decided to stop attending any church services, stating, “Mambo ya Kanisa na mimi it is done. I said I would be praying in my bedroom but my wife continued going to her church.”
Guardian Angel’s life took a transformative turn when he crossed paths with Pastor Ababu, who became his spiritual mentor and father figure. The pastor’s unwavering support and genuine enthusiasm for Guardian Angel’s talents had a profound impact on the singer. This encounter led him to reevaluate his decision to avoid church, understanding that the pastor who had initially chased him away was dealing with his own struggles.
The age gap between Guardian Angel and Esther Musila, with him being 20 years younger than his wife, became a topic of public discussion. Nevertheless, he emphasized that their love and the content of their hearts were what truly mattered in their relationship. He invoked the sentiment expressed in Aaliyah’s song, “Age ain’t nothing but a number,” to highlight the importance of love over age in their marriage.
