Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has signaled the possibility of a political alliance between the youthful Kenya Moja faction and the United Opposition as the race to the 2027 general elections gathers pace.
In an interview on Thursday, September 4, the outspoken ODM legislator underscored the importance of timing in politics, quoting Ecclesiastes 3: “There is a time and a season for everything.”
He explained that Kenya Moja must first consolidate its base before engaging in coalition talks.
“Right now, we still need to prepare ourselves and set up our base properly so that they can also see we are well organized,” Babu said.
Kenya Moja, which has attracted youthful MPs and Senators, includes Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Kitutu Chache MP Antony Kibagendi, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, and Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo. Babu disclosed that more than 70 lawmakers have expressed interest in joining the movement.
On the other side, the United Opposition brings together high-profile leaders such as former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee’s Torome Saitoti. Former UNCTAD chief Mukhisa Kituyi, along with ex-Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i and Justin Muturi, are also part of the coalition.
The prospect of a merger between the two blocs could dramatically reshape Kenya’s political landscape and complicate President William Ruto’s path to re-election in 2027.
