Kenyan TikToker and influencer, Azziad Nasenya, openly discussed her struggle with depression and thoughts of suicide during a challenging period in her life.
In a candid interview with Dr. Ofweneke, Azziad revealed that the onset of suicidal thoughts coincided with the viral success of her videos on social media, particularly those featuring her participation in the ‘Utawezana’ challenge set to Mejja and Femi One’s song.
Initially, Azziad experienced positive reception for her dance performances. However, the atmosphere took a drastic turn after a day, and she found herself facing criticism from some fans. This sudden shift in public opinion became a significant trigger for her depressive thoughts.
Recalling the difficult moment, Azziad shared that she was residing on the fourth floor at the time. Overwhelmed by despair, she contemplated suicide and even went out on the balcony. In that dark moment, she turned to prayer, seeking strength to overcome the negativity engulfing her.
Azziad detailed how the comments about her video transformed within a day and a half, leading to a barrage of criticism. Alone and tearful, she questioned her path and sought solace from a higher power. Her internal dialogue included a poignant question: Was this the path that God had intended for her?
Despite the emotional turmoil, Azziad decided against ending her life, returning home with the realization that such a drastic step would likely go unnoticed and unaddressed. She highlighted the importance of seeking support from those close to her, who offered guidance and encouragement. Eventually, Azziad embraced the understanding that not everyone would appreciate or approve of her endeavors, and she learned to accept that reality with resilience and courage.
Today, Azziad has expanded her influence beyond TikTok, venturing into radio and establishing partnerships with various companies. Her journey reflects a powerful transformation from a dark period of self-doubt to a place of strength and success, reminding others that facing adversity and seeking support can lead to positive outcomes.
