Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has emphasized the importance of fulfilling political commitments to President William Ruto, stating that the Mt Kenya region owes him continued support in line with past pledges.
Waiguru noted that former President Uhuru Kenyatta led the country for ten years and argued that Ruto similarly deserves a decade of leadership. “Uhuru aliongoza miaka kumi. Pia Ruto anafaa kuongoza miaka kumi. Sisi watu wa Mlima tuliahidi Ruto miaka kumi na lazima tumlipe hiyo deni,” she said, highlighting the region’s obligation to honor previous political commitments.
Her remarks underscore ongoing discussions about the role of Mt Kenya voters in shaping national politics and the expectations placed on elected leaders from the region. By framing support for Ruto as a fulfillment of a prior pledge, Waiguru aligns her message with calls for political consistency and loyalty within her constituency.
The governor’s statement is likely to resonate with supporters who view regional unity as central to Kenya’s electoral dynamics, while also reinforcing debates about voter obligations, accountability, and leadership tenure as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
