Renowned legal scholar Prof. PLO Lumumba has issued a scathing criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of presiding over rampant looting while misleading Kenyans about the nation’s development direction.
Speaking during a public forum, Lumumba said it is “extremely shameful” for the President to claim he is steering Kenya toward First World status while, in his view, the government is actively draining the country’s remaining resources.
“It is very shameful for someone to say he is taking Kenya to a First World country, yet all he is doing is looting and looting the country’s only remaining resources,” Lumumba said. “There is a looting spree in this country.”
He questioned alleged attempts to involve foreign interests in strategic national assets, pointing specifically to Safaricom.
“How the hell can someone sell Safaricom to a foreign firm?” Lumumba asked. “How do you sell the only pride of Kenya?”
Lumumba also criticized the government’s narrative on healthcare, terming it contradictory and deceptive.
“It is disastrous to tell Kenyans that you have provided universal health services to them, and the next day Kenyans see you begging and kneeling before a white man to help us with money to buy medicines and health services,” he remarked. “Playing with the minds of Kenyans has become a norm in this regime.”
His comments have renewed debate among Kenyans, especially those concerned about governance, transparency, and the direction of national economic policy.
