Grief As Uasin Ngishu Man Who Married Young Bride At The Age Of 99 Dies 2 Years After Viral Wedding

Mzee Johana Maritim Butuk, the elderly man who captured nationwide attention in January 2023 after marrying a much younger woman following decades of bachelorhood, has passed away.

According to reports from family members and local media, Mzee Johana died peacefully in his sleep. The family confirmed that he had not been suffering from any prolonged illness.

His marriage to Alice Jemeli, also known as Alice Jepkorir, took place in Soy, Uasin Gishu County, and became one of the most talked-about weddings of 2023 due to the wide age gap and the touching story behind it.

At the time, reports indicated that Mzee Johana was around 99 years old, and had known his bride for nearly 20 years before the two finally decided to wed at St. Mark’s Church, Soy B.
