“Kibaki Handed Uhuru a Thriving Economy, Uhuru Left Ruto a Struggling One ,they gave us 3 months for the economy to collapse ” – Isaac Mwaura

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has defended President William Ruto’s administration, claiming it has steered the country away from economic collapse despite inheriting a struggling economy.

Speaking during a media briefing, Mwaura said former President Mwai Kibaki left behind a vibrant economy that was later mismanaged during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure. He argued that Ruto took office at a time when the country was weighed down by debt and inefficiency but has managed to keep it afloat three years into his term.

“President Uhuru took over a well-run economy by President Kibaki. President Ruto took over a run-down country riddled with debt and inefficiency by President Uhuru. That’s the difference. People had given us three months for the economy to collapse and are in shock that we are still going strong three years on,” Mwaura said.

His remarks come amid ongoing debate over the rising cost of living and Kenya’s mounting public debt. While government allies point to fiscal discipline and economic resilience, critics argue that the administration is deflecting blame and that Kenyans continue to bear the brunt of tough economic conditions.
