Residents of Narok County were left reeling after two brothers reportedly took their own lives following a bitter dispute over family land.
Reports indicate that the brothers were upset after their father, Mzee David Towett, allegedly allocated part of the family land to his first wife, who had recently returned after decades apart. Sources reveal that the brothers had vowed not to let the decision stand, particularly after their stepbrother’s burial took place on the contested land.
Police investigations show that the two had caused a scene during the burial, openly protesting the decision and issuing threats in broad daylight.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with Kenyans expressing condolences to the family while also reflecting on the tragic consequences of entitlement. One social media user, John Mwaniki, commented:
“Why would you decide to take your life just because your father decided to give someone else a piece of land? This is what we call entitlement. Now they are dead and gone, and the land will remain there forever.”
