Residents of Masinga, Machakos County, are in shock after the body of Elizabeth Wanza Mutiso, a well-known businesswoman, was discovered in a thicket near her home in the Sikia area.
Mutiso, who had been missing for close to a week, was last spotted on Friday, September 12, walking along Kikumini Road near Masinga market. Her decomposed body was later found on the evening of Tuesday, September 23, about one kilometer from her residence.
The grim discovery was made after a villager noticed a dog feeding on what looked like animal remains. On closer inspection, it turned out to be human bones. This prompted a search by locals, which led to the recovery of Mutiso’s body hidden in nearby bushes.
Police officers who visited the scene said initial investigations point to the possibility that she was murdered elsewhere and later dumped at the site, as there were no visible signs of a struggle where the body was recovered.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and detectives are urging members of the public to share any information that could help track down those involved.
Her family is calling for justice, while residents have raised concerns over the rising insecurity in the area.
