In 1990, he graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany and Zoology, where he also served as the chairman of the Christian Union. His passion for learning did not stop there—two decades later, in 2011, he completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Science.
But Ruto’s journey is not just about academics. After high school, he worked as an evangelist, preaching in Nairobi’s Dagoretti and Ngando areas. During this period, he lived in a modest house where he paid KSh 1,750 rent, and it was here that he dated his future wife, Rachel Ruto. Their first child was born in this very Kawangware home—a detail the President often recalls to highlight his humble beginnings.
Ruto’s political journey began in earnest in 1997, when he was elected as Member of Parliament for Eldoret North Constituency. Over the years, his influence grew, and in 2013, he became the first Deputy President of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution, serving until 2022. That same year, he made history by being sworn in as the fifth President of Kenya.
Today, President William Ruto stands as a testament to how determination, faith, and perseverance can transform a simple village boy into the leader of a nation. His story continues to inspire millions of Kenyans who see in him proof that no background is too humble to rise to greatness.
