Fresh twists have emerged in the investigation into the murder of prominent lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu after one of the suspects released over the case made explosive allegations against detectives.
George Wainaina, a Kanu official, claimed that police mishandled his arrest and subjected him and others to humiliation before their families without first conducting proper investigations.
He further alleged that officers who raided his Karen home took Sh50 million from a safe, adding that his lawyer, Musa Maulid, is already following up with authorities regarding the matter.
Wainaina narrated that he was arrested without notice, denied a chance to change his clothes, and locked in a cold cell at Kileleshwa Police Station. He was later transferred to Nairobi Area Police Station, where detectives questioned him over his alleged links with Mbobu. However, he maintained he had never engaged in any dealings with the slain lawyer.
His lawyer, Maulid, condemned the arrests, describing them as malicious, unjustified, and an abuse of police powers. He stressed that forensic phone analysis, ballistic examinations, and verified alibis had already cleared the three men previously arrested.
With the suspects freed, investigators are now shifting focus to the cases and business dealings Mbobu was handling before his untimely death.
Mbobu was gunned down on September 9 by assailants on a motorcycle along Magadi Road.
