The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that it will resume continuous voter registration across the country starting Monday, September 29, 2025.
In a statement, the Commission said the exercise will target Kenyans who have recently attained the age of 18, those who have never registered as voters before, and citizens seeking to transfer their registration details to different polling stations.
Eligible voters will be required to present their original national identification card or a valid Kenyan passport.
“The Commission notifies the public that continuous voter registration will resume on Monday, September 29, 2025, at constituency IEBC offices and all Huduma Centres countrywide,” the statement read in part.
According to IEBC, registration will be conducted at all Constituency IEBC offices and designated County Assembly Wards. To ensure inclusivity, mobile registration teams will also be deployed to reach remote and marginalized regions.
In addition, already registered voters will have the opportunity to transfer their voting details by physically visiting their constituency IEBC offices with their identification documents.
Kenyans living abroad will also be able to register at designated IEBC centres located within embassies, high commissions, and consulates in countries where the Commission is accredited.
IEBC noted that continuous voter registration will be suspended 60 days before the 2027 General Election, in line with the law. The electoral body has urged all eligible citizens to take advantage of this window to ensure their participation in the upcoming polls.
“The Commission calls upon all eligible Kenyans who are yet to register as voters to take advantage of this opportunity to do so and participate in the electoral process,” the statement added.
How to Register as a New Voter
- Visit your IEBC Constituency Office (open countrywide except where by-elections are ongoing).
- Carry your original National ID card or a valid Kenyan passport.
- Request and fill out Form A, the statutory new voter registration form.
- Provide your personal and biometric details (fingerprints and photograph) to the Registration Officer.
- Receive an acknowledgement slip confirming your details have been captured.
IEBC clarified that the slip is not used for voting, and every voter must present their National ID card or passport on Election Day.
The voter registration exercise is part of the Commission’s wider preparations to boost electoral participation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
