Huge Salary, Benefits DIG Eliud Lagat Pockets Monthly Amid Resignation Calls Over Ojwang’s Death

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, earns a gross monthly salary of Ksh652,742. This figure was established by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) in its 2021–2025 review. As the second-highest-ranking officer in the National Police Service (NPS), Lagat’s salary places him among the top earners in Kenya’s public sector, just below the Inspector General.

DIG Lagat is responsible for overseeing the Kenya Police Service, one of the key units under the NPS, which also includes the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the Internal Affairs Unit.

His salary package is de-consolidated into a basic salary, a house allowance, and a salary market adjustment, as stipulated in Kenya Gazette Notice No. 10347. Beyond the salary, DIG Lagat enjoys a comprehensive benefits package, both monetary and non-monetary.

He is entitled to an official government-assigned vehicle, typically with an engine capacity not exceeding 3000cc. His medical cover includes Ksh10 million for inpatient care, Ksh300,000 for outpatient services, Ksh150,000 for maternity, and Ksh75,000 each for dental and optical care. These benefits extend to one spouse and up to four dependents under 25 years.

Additionally, the DIG can access a car loan of up to Ksh6 million and a mortgage facility of up to Ksh30 million. These loans are provided under favourable terms through the National Treasury, making the role both prestigious and financially rewarding.
