Mary Biketi, the wife of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, has revealed that she suffered a miscarriage after intimate photos of her and her husband were circulated online without her consent.
Speaking candidly on the Queens Podcast, Mary shared how the unexpected public exposure overwhelmed her emotionally, leading to devastating consequences. She explained that the pressure from social media was too much to bear, especially since she never intended to publicize their relationship.
“We had been together for a long time, and I was already living with him before the pictures went viral,” Mary said. “Had the photos not been leaked, no one would have known about our relationship. I had no reason to post him—what would I gain?”
The unexpected online attention shocked her deeply. At the time, she was five months pregnant, and the emotional distress ultimately led to a miscarriage.
“I was in utter shock when I saw our photos online. I was five months pregnant, and the pressure caused me to miscarry. It was a really dark time. But I’m grateful for the unwavering support he gave me,” she added.
Mary also disclosed that her parents were understanding and supportive when they found out she was dating Oparanya. They didn’t judge or criticize her decision, which gave her some comfort.
Despite the emotional toll, she’s trying to stay grounded. She runs a furniture business in Nairobi, which continues to be her source of income. However, life has changed drastically since her relationship became public.
Once a carefree fashion enthusiast who enjoyed sharing her lifestyle and vacations online, Mary says she’s had to scale back significantly due to her partner’s public profile.
“There are three things I struggle with now,” she confessed. “First, I can’t post the kind of content I used to. Second, I deal with constant attention—wherever I go, people recognize me. Lastly, people come to me with their problems, assuming I can solve them. I really miss my private life, but life has to move on.”
