Former Deputy President Gachagua Reveals Who Attacked Him in Limuru

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken after his convoy was attacked in Limuru, Kiambu County.

Gachagua in a statement on Thursday, November 26 stated that it is very sad state of affairs and a major low for the state, who were clearly complicit in these actions.

He said that they especially remember the family that had a loved one in a casket, who had to run to safety despite their profound grief after gangsters armed with stones, machetes, iron bars and sticks attacked them.

“Today, I was at a funeral service in Limuru for a young man called Erastus Nduati. While we were preparing to lay the young man to rest goons attacked us & the other mourners who were present, including children” he said.

“We just especially remember the family that had a loved one in a casket, who had to run to safety despite their profound grief.”

Gachagua Speaks on Limuru Attack

The former Deputy President went on to narrate how gangs randomly descended on mourners, attacking them with the weapons they had.

He noted that a specific group trailed him as he rushed towards his car, which they attacked with stones and iron bars.

“A specific group followed me as I went to my car, which they proceeded to attack with stones and iron bars. We literally drove out of the venue under a hail of rocks!” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua mentioned that Kenyans are well aware that earlier this week, the government withdrew the final aspects of his security that had remained in place after the impeachment process. He added that they are contesting the matter.

“However, we did not raise issue with this decision by the government although expectations were that any Kenyan,” siad the former DP.

Additionally, He stated that he would not be intimidated or deterred from standing with Kenyans who rely on him for support during their moments of need.

“We just expect such a terrible moment of shame will not be repeated,” Gachagua added.

Damages From the Attack

Allies of the former Deputy President had earlier revealed that the goons disrupted a burial ceremony where Gachagua was in attendance.

Additionally, videos and photos shared online showed several people who accompanied Gachagua to the event injured, and others bleeding after the melee.

A camera person was left with broken equipment after being forced to end the recording midway.

Vehicles that he had used, including a land cruiser were also damaged.

Kiambu Senator and former DP Gachagua ally, Karungo wa Thang’wa alleged that the attack was an assassination attempt towards the ousted Dp.

“It was an assassination attempt. But the People’s Deputy President is safe. Thank you Limuru people, for ensuring our safety. We will not be intimidated or silenced—now we know!” he said.
