Former gospel singer Willy Paul has opened up about why he has yet to marry. In an exclusive interview on the Hey Girl Podcast, he shared several experiences that have led him to fear commitment and marriage.
Willy Paul expressed that his main concern with marriage is trust. He explained that he has been hesitant to fully commit to a relationship because he fears betrayal. He highlighted the emotional pain that comes when someone invests in a relationship only to be hurt by infidelity.
He shared an example to illustrate his point: often, a man invests deeply in a relationship, only to find that his partner has cheated on him. According to Willy Paul, the heartbreak caused by such betrayal is indescribable, and it takes a long time to heal from it.
In his words, “Let’s assume you’re my girlfriend, I trust you, and I’m telling you things like ‘I love you, I want us to have a future together, and I want us to have children.’ You say the same things to me, but deep down, you have another man somewhere, and I don’t know. I trust you completely, even in intimate moments. We don’t even use protection because I trust you, but little did I know, I was trusting the wrong person.”
Willy Paul further explained that trust issues can lead to even more severe consequences, such as the spread of sexually transmitted diseases or an unplanned pregnancy.
“Because of trust, I gave you everything, but you showed no respect. You went out there, and my trust cost me dearly. You came back and infected me with STDs. It’s painful. I even know that diseases like cancer and AIDS don’t have a cure,” he said.
Although Willy Paul is currently unmarried and has no plans to marry, he is a father to a beautiful daughter from his previous relationship with his ex-girlfriend.
