2nd Year Student From Kisii Allegedly Committs Suicide After Being Dumped By Girlfriend

A family in Kisii is mourning the sudden death of their son, Peter Hezy, a second-year student at Masinde Muliro University, who was found dead in his house in Kakamega County.

According to reports, the incident was discovered by his close friends after Peter failed to attend classes—something they said was completely unusual for him. One of his friends, identified as Churchill, said they decided to check on him when he became unreachable.

When they arrived at his residence, they noticed an obstruction at the door. After forcing their way inside, they found Peter unresponsive, prompting them to alert the university administration, who then contacted police officers.

Churchill added that Peter had recently gone through emotional challenges following a breakup and had shared posts reflecting his struggles on social media days before the tragedy. His friends, however, said they did not expect the situation to escalate.

Police officers who visited the scene confirmed that investigations are ongoing. The body was moved to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The incident has sparked conversations online about the emotional pressures facing university students. Many Kenyans who reacted to the news urged young people to prioritize their mental well-being and seek support whenever they feel overwhelmed. Others sent messages of sympathy to the family, friends, and the MMUST community.

Local leaders and counsellors have also emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces where students can openly share their struggles and access help without fear of stigma.
