President William Ruto has lauded the people of Ukambani, describing them as kind-hearted and generous, but he also criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for allegedly using their goodwill to advance the opposition.
Speaking during a public event, the President highlighted the virtues of Ukambani residents, emphasizing their hospitality, unity, and strong community values.
“Watu wa Ukambani ni wazuri sana, kama kuna watu watatangulia binguni ni hao, lakini Kalonzo ametumia uzuri na ungwana wao kuwapeleka upinzani!” said President Ruto.
Ruto’s remarks come amid a politically charged atmosphere in the region, where the Wiper Party and Kenya Kwanza coalition have been vying for influence ahead of the 2027 elections. The President’s statement appears aimed at both acknowledging Ukambani’s contribution to the nation and warning about political manipulation.
The comments have generated mixed reactions online. Supporters of Ruto praised his recognition of Ukambani’s people, while Kalonzo’s allies argued that the President was being unfair, claiming that political competition is a natural part of Kenya’s democracy.
Political analysts note that Ruto’s praise of Ukambani may be a strategic move to strengthen his support in the region, while also highlighting the challenges facing opposition leaders in maintaining loyalty among constituents.
